'Like life isn't hard enough' says pub owner as 60 diners fail to turn up

Another Liverpool venue has reported a mass "no show" after dozens of tables were booked.

Gastropub Dovedale Towers in world famous Penny Lane took to social media this afternoon to say: "Absolutely delighted that we had almost 60 covers who had booked no showing today. Like this isn't hard enough."

The ECHO reported yesterday how a Liverpool restaurant owner was left "gutted" after a malicious prankster apparently booked out two events with fake names and emails.

The Brunch Club owner Danny Bolger shared his distress in a video filmed in an empty restaurant after no one turned up for either event - despite the tables being fully booked.

Now something very similar appears to have taken place at Dovedale Towers, known locally as "The Dovey".

The gastropub was inundated with messages of support after posting the message, with many saying venues should now insist on customers who wanted to book a table paying a deposit.

One said: "It's bang out of order. It's devastating for you as a business but also as a customer, we tried twice to book a table with you and understandably you were full at the time so we couldn't book."

Another said: "Why would you push people towards closure and job losses?"

And a third said: "This is awful. No concerns about the lives this affects. People working in pubs and restaurants have families and bills to pay. Feel for you."

Under Tier Three covid restrictions now in place in the Liverpool City Region, only pubs and bars serving meals are allowed to stay open.
