Nottingham nurse out of pocket after her car tyres were 'stabbed'

A frontline nurse fighting the coronavirus has been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket after her car tyres were 'stabbed'.

Georgia Pentz, 29, who works in intensive care at one of the city's hospitals, said she parked her car in Cumberland Close, Ruddington, near where she lives, last Monday evening (August 10).

She went to bed after a long shift and awoke to two flat tyres the following morning.

She said the tyres of her white BMW 1 Series had been 'stabbed', adding: "They've got really distinct holes, it looks like from a screwdriver or something like that."

She decided to drive to work that day, saying: “I knew they were run flat tyres [designed to keep moving in the event of a puncture], I know you can do 50 miles on run flat tyres.

"I thought I have got to go to work, I can’t not go to work.

"I did manage to get there, it was a bit hairy going round corners - I managed to get there.

"I was angry (about what happened) but I would not say I was particularly surprised."

Miss Pentz arranged for the vehicle to be recovered. Her car needed two new tyres, at cost of £320.

“I just paid for it out of my savings, I just did not want it to put my (insurance) premium up so much that I struggle each month.

"It's £320 out of what would have been a holiday fund has now gone on two tyres," she said.

She was off on the Wednesday and the car was ready for her to pick up on the Thursday, August 13, in time for her night shift.

Miss Pentz, who treats coronavirus patients, added: "I think that's what's most annoying about it - people were there on a Thursday clap, clap, clapping for me. It just feels like a bit of a stab in the back."

The incident was reported to Nottinghamshire Police just before 9.10pm on August 11.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "It is reported that the car was damaged between 8pm on Monday 10 August and 6.30am on Tuesday 11 August 2020, with both passenger side tyres being left punctured.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing into the incident."

There have been no arrests in connection with the investigation.

Any witnesses are asked to call the force on 101.
