'Like a horror film' Terrifying moment 'creep' tries to force open woman's car door at Scots roundabout

A Scots woman has described the moment a 'creepy man' tried to force her car door open at a roundabout as being like "something out of a horror film", leaving her terrified to leave her home.

Emma Mckie and boyfriend Conor McRae Clark, 25, were driving towards Hopefield roundabout in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, when they noticed a man at the side of the road.

Conor slowed down to let the man cross but when the car stopped the man walked in front of them and then turned around to go to the passenger door.

Emma locked eyes with the 'creepy' pedestrian as he then proceeded to reach for the car door.

The 27-year-old told the Record: "He was staring right at me. It was like something out of a horror film - that's how I would describe it.

"Me and my partner went for a drive as we do both most nights and as we approached the roundabout I said to my partner 'there's someone waiting to cross'.

"So we stopped to let him across but he stopped in the middle of the road while we were stationary and he came around my side of the car.

"He stopped and looked at me and then tried my car door handle.

"I cooried right in to my partner.

"At that point in time I was shouting 'drive, drive, drive'.

"For the first couple days after I was terrified - I didn't want to leave the house. It was traumatising.

"We don't want it to happen to someone else because it could be much worse. We don't know if he had a knife or a weapon.

"I can't go by that roundabout now - even other roundabouts we drive by I get flashbacks.

"It has put the fear in me."

Luckily Conor was able to quickly speed off as the pair immediately contacted the police and parked at the local Tesco to wait safely on officers arriving.

Emma said when the man opened the door she thought he was going to kill her and is thankful they managed to get away quickly.

The traumatising incident which happened on April 7, around 11pm, has left Emma so scared to go in the car she has to lock the doors immediately and the pair have even started to take Conor's pet husky out with them.

They urged anyone travelling in a car to make sure their doors were locked to avoid something similar happening.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Officers received a report on Wednesday April 7 around 11pm of a man trying to gain entry to a vehicle at Hopefield roundabout.

"The man was traced and at the time no criminality was established."
