Like a dumb bully, Donald Trump has a meltdown when questioned about going to war with American cities

Los Angeles: conquered. Washington DC: humiliated. Chicago: buckle up. Donald Trump is currently engaged in military action against the American people, focusing his attacks on Democratic urban strongholds to project fear under the “excuse” of fighting crime.

Chicago is now squarely in Trump’s sights, with him ominously taking to social media and posting: “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.” Well, how much clearer can he possibly be?

Journalists are understandably anxious to find out what precisely Trump means when he threatens an American city with war. But, when a female journalist quizzed him on what “going to war” means, Trump dropped the decorum, loomed menacingly over her, and revealed his true thoughts:

“You say that darling, that’s fake news, I don’t go to war. Listen, be quiet. You don’t listen, you never listen. That’s why you’re second-rate. We’re not going to war, we’re going to clean up our cities, we’re going to clean ’em up so they don’t kill five people every weekend. That’s not war, that’s common sense.”

Smells a whole lot like war

I dunno, Mr President, when you’re promising to sic the “Department of WAR” on a city, preparing to send in armed troops, and overriding the express wishes of local government and civilians, it sure sounds a whole lot like war to me.

Plus, this whole excuse about lowering crime figures is patently nonsense. The overwhelming presence of ICE agents and the terrifying raids they’re planning make it clear to anyone that the true objective is to round up as many immigrants as they can and consign them to the camps they’re setting up near the city.

ICE goons have requested that a military base be given to them so it can be transformed into a new immigrant detention center, indicating they have hopes to drag hundreds, if not thousands, of people away in unmarked vans to an uncertain fate in these secretive facilities.

Chicago has vowed to resist Trump’s troops, but who knows what that means in practice? After all, one itchy trigger finger on either side and this tense situation could spill over into open conflict between Chicagoans and Trump’s men.

Then again, maybe that’s exactly the situation Trump and his cronies are trying to engineer. Keep trampling over citizens’ rights until there’s actual resistance, then use that as the reasoning for a real crackdown on liberty and opposition. Whatever happens, this week the limits of presidential power are about to be tested. Stay safe, Chicago.
