Ligue 1 lawmakers make decision that affects Houssem Aouar amid talk of Arsenal offer

Houssem Aouar's latest appearance in Lyon colours was one he will want to forget in a hurry.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, started Tuesday evening's Ligue 1 clash away at Montpellier, but didn't see out the whole game.

That's because he was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half-time.

Aubameyang signs new Arsenal deal

As Montpellier defender Arnaud Souquet attempted to clear the ball from his own byline, Aouar came in with a challenge and his studs made contact across his opponent's shin.

The challenge was enough to see him sent for an early bath and the hosts made their one-man advantage count.

Already one up at the time of Aouar's sending off, they would go on to double their lead with Teji Svanier scoring his second of the evening which meant a Memphis Depay reply from the spot wasn't enough to save Lyon from defeat.

In Ligue 1, the league's disciplinary committee decide how many games red card recipients miss.

And it's now been confirmed by Get French Football News on Twitter that Aouar will only miss one game which is this weekend's home game against Nimes.

This means Aouar will be available for selection again for the Lorient fixture which is set to take place on September 27.

But will he still be at Lyon at the end of the month?

Aouar's suspension comes at a time when it's been reported that Arsenal are preparing to make a bid for his services.

And if the Gunners are successful with their offer and conclude a deal within the next 10 days, then the 44-minute appearance against Montpellier will turn out to be Aouar's last in a Lyon shirt.

With that said, Aouar won't have too many distractions - at least for the next week or so - and will be able to focus on sorting out his future.
