A lightweight clash has been added to expanding UFC on ESPN+ 19 lineup.
“The Ultimate Fighter 27” alumnus Luis Pena (7-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will square off against Dana White’s Contender Series signee Matt Frevola (7-1-1 MMA, 1-1-1 UFC) in a 155-pound matchup.
MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with a person with knowledge of the situation following a Facebook post by Frevola. The person asked to remain anonymous because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
Pena, 26, is coming off back-to-back wins since his first career loss to “TUF 27” winner Mike Trizano in November 2017. Following the defeat, “Violent Bob Ross” returned to form in March, when he defeated Steven Peterson via three-round decision.
In his most recent outing at UFC on ESPN+ 12 in June, Pena finished Matt Wiman via third round ground-and-pound. In seven career victories, Pena has only gone to the judges’ decision one time.
New York’s Frevola, 29, will look to continue the momentum of his first UFC victory over Jalin Turner at UFC 236 in April. Prior to the victory, Frevola fought to a draw against Lando Vannata and was knocked out by Marco “Polo” Reyes.
The Gracie Tampa South product earned a UFC contract on the first season of “Dana White’s Contender Series,” when he finished then-undefeated Jose Flores by second-round submission.
UFC on ESPN+ 19, takes place Oct. 12 in Tampa, Fla. The card streams on ESPN+ and is headlined by former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson.
