Lightwater Valley reopens this weekend with an initial focus on a 'younger family audience'

Family favourite Lightwater Valley will be inviting visitors back to have a blast from this weekend when it reopens its doors, with a new booking system, heightened safety measures and various restrictions in place.

The theme park in North Yorkshire, a popular destination for families in and around Newcastle, has been much missed during lockdown and visitors no doubt will turn out to welcome its reopening this coming Saturday - albeit in smaller numbers.

Its initial opening stage will see a focus on rides for families and younger visitors - although its indoor play areas will remain closed - while The Chronicle has outlined what differences families can expect at Lightwater Valley from July 18.

They include fewer people, due to a current limit on capacity; a requirement to pre-book tickets online; social distancing markers a well as extra cleaning.

Lightwater Valley has said that in line with having to manage visitor numbers and keep everyone safe, it has decided to run rides and parts of the park which are "more suited to a younger family audience".

So, for the time being, the likes of The Ultimate, Raptor Attack and Apollo rides will remain closed.
