OTTAWA, Ontario _ The Lightning had to come back twice, but they pulled out a late 5-3 win over the Senators on Saturday for their sixth consecutive victory.
The game seemed headed for overtime, tied at 3 with under two minutes to go. But Tyler Johnson broke the tie with 1:30 left. Alex Killorn added an empty-netter.
Johnson redirected a shot-pass from Victor Hedman just off the crease for his second goal in his past seven games.
After a scoreless first period, the Lightning (23-13-4) and Senators combined for five goals and two lead changes in the second.
Ottawa's Chris Tierney scored first, a short-handed goal that capitalized on a turnover in the neutral zone 46 seconds into the period. He had another chance on the same penalty kill, but goalie Curtis McElhinney turned it away.
Carter Verhaeghe and Kevin Shattenkirk combined for two goals in 1:05 to put the Lightning on top 2-1. On the first, Hedman pulled goalie Craig Anderson out of the net and then fed the puck to Verhaeghe in the slot.
Shortly after that, Ondrej Palat created the next goal, picking up a turnover and then working the puck low in the zone. He passed back to Brayden Point, but Point lost the puck. Shattenkirk came up behind Point and put a nice wrist shot on net.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mark Borowiecki scored later in the period to put the Senators back on top at 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
Point tied the score again 8:37 into the third.
