Lightning strikes in Glasgow as weather warning remains in place

Lightning has struck parts of Glasgow early this morning as a Met Office weather warning for thunderstorms remains in place.

Lightning strikes were detected in the east end of Glasgow as well as in Renfrew shortly after 5am this morning.

Mobile App Lightning shows the point of impact, with one lightning strike hitting Easterhill Street, in Tollcross, and another in Uddingston.

Meanwhile, lightning also struck in Renfrew, close to Glasgow Airport.

The yellow Met Office warning, issued yesterday, remains in place until 9am this morning, while further thunderstorms are forecast for tomorrow as the whole of the UK endures a heatwave, with possible record temperatures being set down south.

However, Glasgow got off relatively lightly in terms of the extreme weather in comparison to the rest of Scotland, with dozens of lightning strikes felt in the Cairngorms and off the coast of Aberdeen.

The Met Office has warned off possible powercuts as a result of the thunderstorms, while travel disruption also could be experienced.
