Lightning Seeds to play free Bents Park concert in South Shields

The Lightning Seeds are set to return to South Shields' for a performance in Bents Park this summer.

The band - known for hits such as Pure, Lucky You and Sugar Coated Iceberg - will headline a free concert on Sunday, July 21.

It will be the second of this summer's weekly free concerts, a week after Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow to perform at free South Shields festival opens South Tyneside Festival 2019.

Initially formed as a solo project by lead singer, Ian Broudie, the Lightning Seeds expanded into a band after the success of the album Jollification and went on to produce a number of hit records including the platinum album, Dizzy Heights.

Ian also produced and performed England football anthem, Three Lions, with comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner. First released for Euro 96, the song has topped the charts three times and became a sound of summer 2018 during England's run to the World Cup semi finals. This summer, England are competing in the first Nations League Finals, due to run over June.

This will be the second time the band performs at the South Tyneside Festival, having previously played at the concert series in 2011.

"We had a great time when we last played at the festival and we’re really looking forward to heading back to South Shields in July,” said Ian, who is currently working on new music for the band.

"The North East crowds never disappoint and performing outdoors gives the show a brilliant atmosphere."

The concerts are free to attend but fans looking to secure a prime viewing spot can purchase a Priority Plus ticket, priced at £6.

Only a limited number are available and tickets must be purchased in advance, which allows fans earlier access to the park and access to a dedicated bar area and toilets.

Organisers recently announced that Marti Pellow, South Tyneside Festival confirms Midge Ure and Nick Heyward for free Bents Park concert , and Gabrielle will headline the concerts on 14, 28 July and 4 August.
