Lightning Land Tanner Jeannot in Trade With Predators

The Lightning are bolstering their attack and adding a major physical presence to the locker room ahead of the 2023 NHL trade deadline. On Sunday night, Tampa Bay announced it had agreed to acquire left winger Tanner Jeannot from the Predators, in what was Nashville’s second big trade of the weekend.

Having already offloaded veteran forward Nino Neiderreiter in a deal with the Jets, the Predators received a king’s ransom in return for the former undrafted rookie. In exchange for Jeannot, the Lightning sent Nashville defenseman Cal Foote, a 2025 first-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick, and third-, fourth- and fifth-round picks in the upcoming 2023 NHL draft, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli

It’s a stunning price tag for Jeannot, who doesn’t have much draft pedigree himself and has less than three seasons of NHL experience under his belt. The haul heading to Nashville is comparable to what the Sharks received for Timo Meier in their own blockbuster trade earlier on Sunday.

This season, Jeannot has appeared in 56 games for the Predators but hasn’t had a huge impact on the offensive end. He’s managed just 14 points, including five goals, coming on the heels of 41-point season in 2021-22.

As usual, Jeannot has been a mainstay in the penalty box this season. The physical-minded forward has compiled 85 penalty minutes this season and 215 minutes since the start of last season. Additionally, he already has racked up 584 hits in just 152 career games.

The Lightning clearly are enthralled with the 25-year-old, evidenced by their willingness to sacrifice five future draft picks in order to get their hands on him.
