TAMPA, Fla. _ The Lightning hadn't seen a third-period push from an opponent in a few games, but they held off the Flyers' attempt Saturday, winning, 5-3, to extend their victory streak to 10 games.
James van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux scored in the third period to bring the Flyers within 4-3 with 3:46 remaining in the game. Flyers coach Alain Vigneault pulled goalie Carter Hart with about three minutes to play as the Flyers looked to tie the score.
Andrei Vasilevskiy and the Lightning (39-15-5) held off the onslaught, however, and Nikita Kucherov landed an empty-netter to secure the win. Vasilevskiy has not lost a game in regulation in his past 21 starts.
The Lightning improved to 11-0-0 in their past 11 games at Amalie Arena and established a franchise record for longest home winning streak, eclipsing the mark set from Dec. 11, 2014-Jan. 31, 2015 (10-0-0).
The Lightning's Alex Killorn started the scoring 3:17 into the game. The Flyers' Ivan Provorov knocked down Killorn's pass to Kevin Shattenkirk, so the wing grabbed the puck again and banked it off Hart. Late in the first period, Cedric Paquette made it 2-0, redirecting a pass from Tyler Johnson behind the net.
Carter Verhaeghe capitalized on a beautiful saucer pass from Victor Hedman to extend the lead to 3-0 early in the second period.
Provorov scored a power-play goal on a rocket from just inside the blue line at center point to put the Flyers on the board at 8:57 of the second period.
Brayden Point made a nice move and beat Hart top shelf at 12:34 of the third period, to give the Lightning a 4-1 lead.
The Flyers mounted their comeback try shortly after.
