June 12--Thunderstorms were bringing rain in parts of the Grapevine area of northern Los Angeles County and northeastern Ventura County on Friday afternoon, forecasters said.
Areas that could experience minor flooding include the 5 Freeway north of Santa Clarita, Castaic Lake, Pyramid Lake, Lake Piru, Lake Hughes, Elizabeth Lake and California 138 between Quail Lake and Lancaster.
A flash flood watch is in effect through Friday evening in the Los Angeles County mountains, except for the Santa Monica Mountains, with thunderstorms expected over the mountains and a low-pressure system still lingering, according to the National Weather Service.
"If you come across swift moving water crossing the road, turn around, don't drown," the weather service warned.
Thunderstorms were expected over the Antelope and Cuyama valleys, with potential for significant rainfall.
"On top of all of this, the steering winds are under 10 mph so the heavy rain will linger over any area as it develops," the weather service said.
Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and hail are possible.
By Friday night, thunderstorms should move out of the area, with warm temperatures and dry conditions returning Saturday.
Earlier this week, moisture left over from Tropical Storm Blanca brought some rain to Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
On Wednesday, rain flooded parts of New Cuyama, a town in Santa Barbara County. Photos from the area showed raging streams flooding roads and surrounding homes.
