Lightning forks directly into house, causing explosion and blowing out sockets

A video captured shouts and screams of shock when a house was hit by lightning.

Donna Tizzard was filming as the thunderstorm on Thursday night hit Wrexham and captured the moment a bolt of lightning flashed out of the sky and hit a house.

The bolt appeared to strike the top of a house nearby and caused an explosion that blew out the sockets.

Donna screamed and shouted in shock as she captured the dramatic moment.

Firefighters confirmed they were called to an incident in Sunny View just after 8pm on Wednesday.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Lightning struck an aerial at a property in the Gwersyllt area that resulted in minor damage to the property and one person received oxygen by firefighters following the shock."

The fire service have received multiple calls for help in the Wrexham area tonight after the storm brought heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

Wales was hit by thunderstorms on Wednesday night, and more are forecast over the next five days.

Around 15,000 lightning strikes were recorded over the country over the last 24 hours and torrential rain was reported across the country.

It comes after temperatures above 34°C were recorded for the sixth day in a row in parts of southern England, for the first time since at least 1961.

Temperatures could remain above 20°C overnight into Thursday, according to the Met Office, while further unsettled weather is expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

Forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: "It's not often we get temperatures this high over several days, and that is triggering thunderstorms across parts of England and Wales."
