BOSTON ? The Lightning and Bruins have played some tightly-fought games over the years. So it is fitting that their first meeting of 2019-20 required a shootout.
After everyone else missed, and the shootout extended to its fourth round, Steven Stamkos made it took easy, scoring five-hole of Tuukka Rask. Andrei Vasilevskiy made one more save on Jake DeBrusk to give the Lightning a 4-3 win.
Neither team scored consecutive goals as play went back and forth throughout the game.
David Pastrnak opened up scoring as he one-timed Patrice Bergeron's rebound past Vasilevskiy for a power-play goal midway through the first period. That came after Brad Marchand had the first golden chance of the game, but his shot two minutes in rang off the pipe even as the crowd erupted in celebration.
Brayden Point scored on a breakaway with 0.8 seconds left in the period. Victor Hedman started the play with an outlet pass to Yanni Gourde, who then slid the pick to Point. He had a couple of steps on everyone else and landed a wrist shot.
Patrice Bergeron put the Bruins back on top with another power-play goal 7:26 into the second period. This time Mathieu Joseph and Alex Killorn answered three minutes later.
Killorn picked off the puck and the two traded passes until Killorn took a shot from the slot. The puck dribbled off Rask's pads and Joseph was there to tap in the rebound.
Kevin Shattenkirk gave the Lightning their first lead of the game late in the third period, but Pastrnak landed his second goal of the night to even it up a minute later.
