Lighthouse Kitchen and Carvery reopens after customer tested positive for coronavirus

A pub has opened its doors again after having to close 24 hours after reopening due to one of its customers testing positive for coronavirus.

Bosses at the Lighthouse Kitchen and Carvery, in Burnham-on-Sea, were called by the punter early on Sunday, July 5.

An Indian takeaway also closed for a deep clean as one of their drivers had been at the pub.

The pub's manager Jess, who would not give her full name, said they were glad to be welcoming customers again after having to close the day after 'Super Saturday' when pubs reopened across the country.

She said: "The re-opening went well and we haven’t put any extra measures in as we had all the measures in place, which is why we coped with it when it happened to us.

"Our customers have been great along with all the positive comments and calls we have had.

"We are just glad to be back open."

The pub posted on its Facebook page that all the staff tests for coronavirus had come back negative.

At the time of the closure, the manager said a deep-clean had been conducted.

"We were quite shocked when we found out," she said. "I think everyone thought it would happen at some point but not one day after reopening.

"Under the rules, we don't have to close but I wanted to put the health of my staff and customers first."

The manager said the customer with coronavirus was randomly tested and was showing no signs at all, adding they were lucky that he spent most of the time in the garden and only came in once to order a drink.

The venue has a one-way system in place, hand sanitisers and measures to keep customers one-metre apart.

Nearly 600 fans responded to the news when the pub announced it would have to close again on Facebook.

One comment said: "Well done for acting responsibly and taking the right action.

"Wondering if this is the same person who attended the vape whatever it is as well. Very irresponsible if so.

"Hope you and your staff are all ok once tested and any customers who came in contact too."

While another said: "Thanks for being so reactive.

"Will have confidence in visiting when you are open again.

"Sorry you had to close but well done for doing the right thing."
