Lighthouse attack hospitalises worker, teens escape

THE organisation that manages Norah Head Lighthouse is calling for the public's help after a shocking attack which left one of the reserve staff members with head injuries.

On Friday 11.30pm one of the park employees approached a group of about 20 teenagers who had gathered in the dunes at the old quarry.

According to a statement from Norah Head Lighthouse the illegal campers had a fire blazing and the employee requested it be extinguished due to the high fire danger. The request was reportedly met with aggression and during the altercation the employee was knocked to the ground by two of the teenagers, hitting her head on the road.

"It is with deep regret and shock that we inform the community our Norah Head Lighthouse reserve manager was assaulted and hospitalised on Friday night," the statement said.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene. One young man in the group reportedly cared for the employee prior to emergency services arriving. When police arrived the teenagers escaped into the bush.

It is believed at least two witnesses filmed the assault on their phones and lighthouse management has called for these people to handover the footage to the authorities.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is encouraged to contact Wyong police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
