Are you fed up carrying a lot of stuff in your bag every day? I think many women are. In addition to a wallet, smartphone and fold-up umbrella, they also have to take cosmetics with them to fix their makeup outside the house.
Lightweight cosmetics or those with multiple functions are a convenient solution to this problem.
According to cosmetics company Parado, the average woman's bag weighs 2.6 kilograms. The heaviest item is their wallet, followed by their cosmetics bag.
Cosmetics bags are full of lipsticks, foundation, eyebrow pencils, blush and other items. Many makeup companies take pains to present makeup in containers with big decorations on them or in glass bottles. They are often so bulky and heavy that you're probably unwilling to take them out with you.
Parado sells compact cosmetics via Seven-Eleven stores that are convenient for carrying around. Even if you carry eight of their items, including foundation and eyeliner, the total weight is only 116.5 grams, lighter than an ordinary smartphone. Their functions and designs are simple, but they come in shades that can brighten up makeup that has worn off.
Selling makeup in small amounts also aims to meet the demand of people who want to try just a little bit.
Shiseido Co. has released a small lipstick named rouge rouge pico (1,944 yen) in the high-end "SHISEIDO" brand. The lipstick is about half the size of the brand's conventional products.
"Customers can use up the small-sized cosmetics easily, which makes them feel relaxed about trying another new color," the company said. They are also aiming to get the younger generation to buy expensive cosmetics at relatively low prices by reducing the amount to as little as 2.2 grams.
Kanebo Cosmetics Inc. also offers easy-to-carry cosmetics under a brand called media, selling them via FamilyMart, Circle K and Sunkus convenience stores. The range includes card-shaped foundations and small lipsticks that can easily be put in a small pouch.
Cosmetics with multiple functions are also useful.
Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. sells Sugao Souffle Eye Color (1,080 yen), which can be used not only as eye shadow, but also as blush and highlighter. Using one color on the eyes, cheeks and other parts of the face creates a unified look.
Makeup sometimes comes off as we sweat in warm weather. Carrying small cosmetics in your bag will keep you looking sharp.
