A number of staff from a Hamilton cake factory are self-isolating after some workers tested positive for Covid-19 while off shift.
Over the last week several workers from Lightbody, on Bothwell Road, were told to begin isolation as a precaution following a “comprehensive track and trace” after five members of staff contracted the virus.
But the Finsbury Food Group, who run Lightbody of Hamilton, say they are reassuring employees that they are taking the situation “very seriously” and that no member of staff is to return to the factory before their 14 days are up.
A spokesperson for the Finsbury Food Group said: “Lightbody can confirm that five employees have tested positive for Covid-19 whilst off shift.
“A comprehensive track and trace has been implemented and, as a precaution, a number of employees have been isolated for the government-guided 14-day period.
“No members of staff are being told to come back to work before their own isolation period finishes.
“We would like to reassure all of our employees that we are taking this very seriously and that their health and safety is our top priority.
“We have taken all necessary precautionary measures, guided by government advice, on how to respond and continue to maintain our high standards of hygiene, PPE use and social distancing best practice.”
The Bothwell Road factory site employs over 1100 people and is the UK’s largest supplier of celebration cakes to retailers throughout the country.
