Light to moderate showers in Pune till June 28

PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the city till June 28.

On Wednesday, isolated locations in the city received rainfall — Chinchwad at 11.5 mm, Lavale 6 mm, Magarpatta 0.5 mm and Lohegaon (trace rainfall). Shivajinagar did not receive any rain.

Anupam Kashyapi, head of the weather forecasting division, IMD, Pune told TOI, “The off-shore trough at mean sea level is currently from south Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast.

Strengthening of westerly winds and a sheer zone expected to pass through South Maharashtra has been aiding rainfall. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over central and South Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra and adjacent Arabian sea area, which may further cause rain in the state,” he said.

“Konkan-Goa is likely to receive widespread rain during the next four days. Fairly widespread rain is expected till Sunday over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.”

Skymet Weather Services on Wednesday said that a cyclonic circulation is developing, one each in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal (BoB). “Between June 23 and 25, moderate rain and thundershowers at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is expected over central and north Konkan (including Mumbai),” Skymet officials said.
