BRIEF: Another April spring day: Light snow, wind chills in the 20s

April 22--Light flurries fell across some parts of the Chicago area early Wednesday as wind chills dropped into the mid-20s.

O'Hare International Airport reported some snow and a burst of light sleet fell in downtown Chicago around daybreak.

Illinois State Police District Chicago received reports of flurries in Des Plaines and other parts of the Chicago area, but roads were not affected, according to Trooper Ark Wozniak.

Light snow is not rare for the end of April. "It's April. We have snow in April," said National Weather Service meteorologist Amy Seeley. "It's not unusual."

The latest snow in the Chicago area was recorded June 2, 1910, Seeley said.

Wednesday's temperatures are expected to rise later in the day and peak around 50 degrees, Seeley said.

Some frost is possible in the predawn hours of Thursday as temperatures again drop into the upper 20s away from the lake and the mid-30s in the downtown area, according to WGN-TV chief meteorologist Tom Skilling.
