Light No Fire release date: when is the hotly anticipated game out?

Light No Fire came out of nowhere to steal the show at this year’s Game Awards.

The upcoming fantasy-adventure game looks every bit as epic as No Man’s Sky, the previous title from British developer Hello Games.

So, when can you expect to play it? Here’s what we know about Light No Fire.

What is Light No Fire?

Set in an ancient land, Light No Fire is described as a sandbox survival game with an emphasis on exploration. From its description, we can assume that it will give players a high level of freedom and creativity.

Steeped in rich fantasy tropes, the game’s trailer features humans and anthropomorphs working in tandem to build villages, scout uncharted territories on flying dragons, and navigate unplumbed waters.

Light No Fire sounds as ambitious as No Man's Sky (Hello Games)

But, it’s the massive scale of the game that is sure to get tongues wagging. Speaking at the Game Awards, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray promised a “truly open world” on a “planet the size of Earth".

What’s more, Light No Fire will be procedurally generated. In the realm of video games, the technique sees entire worlds and their inhabitants created on the fly using an algorithm.

No Man’s Sky redux?

Anyone who has played No Man’s Sky is probably getting a sense of déjà vu at this stage. Released in 2018, the game promised an unrestrained, spacefaring adventure, only to buckle under its own hype.

Hello Games said the procedurally generated game featured 18 quintillion planets, but it was dragged by critics and players for its repetitive gameplay

What followed was a story for the ages. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the developer managed to completely overhaul the game through a series of updates, which introduced key features like multiplayer support and base-building.

The game is set on an ancient Earth inspired by classic fantasy (Hello Games)

So is Hello Games overstating Light No Fire’s scope, or has it learned from its mistakes on No Man’s Sky? Time will tell.

What is Light No Fire’s release date?

Outside of a trailer and a short description, Hello Games has revealed very little about No Man’s Sky.

There’s currently no word on its release date or platforms. Looking back to No Man’s Sky, three years passed between that game’s reveal and eventual launch, which is par for the course in the gaming industry. So, eager players may have to be patient.

Is Light No Fire an MMO?

What we do know is that Light No Fire will be a multiplayer game. Although it sounds like it will encourage co-operation between players, Hello Games has not confirmed if it will be a massively multiplayer online game, or MMO.

Is Light No Fire on PS5 and Xbox?

For now, the game only has a Steam listing, which indicates that it should be coming to PC. But, we wouldn’t be surprised if it landed on PS5 and Xbox, seeing as No Man’s Sky is available on virtually every major platform, including Nintendo Switch and Mac.
