On Sept 15 and Oct 6, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)'s Nakhon Ratchasima Office in collaboration with the public sector presents a light and sound show entitled Wimaya Nattakan (Heavenly Dances) from 5-8pm at Phimai Historical Park, Nakhon Ratchasima.

The show aims to depict the history and past glory of the Phimai community and Khmer civilisation. Khmer King Jayavarman VII ordered the construction of numerous temples, including Phimai Temple, during his reign over a millennium ago.
Phimai Temple is one of the largest and most important Khmer historical sites in Thailand. The word phimai appears in an inscription on a stone slab at the front doorway of the building as well as in many other structures. It is believed that phimai referred to a religious figure or site. The 565m by 1,030m sanctuary is rectangular in shape and composed of ornately carved sandstone and laterite structures. It is the only Khmer sanctuary that faces south while the others usually face east.
Before the show, a northeastern-style blessing ritual will be performed by the elderly. Also, local student guides from Phimai Witthaya School will lead tourists to visit the sanctuary. Local dances, ram baisri soo khwan and ram jub krub, as well as other traditional dances -- a boxing dance, mortar dance, cricket dance, bamboo dance and Phimai dance -- will be performed by students from Nakhon Ratchasima College of Dramatic Arts and Phimai Witthaya School.
Admission to the show is free.
