Lift the Lid community forum wins suicide prevention award

Wayne Turale from Rural Alive and Well and Anita Campbell from Bothwell say the 'Lift the Lid' forum is responding to a community need.

A community forum in Tasmania's Central Highlands dealing with mental health, has won a Tasmanian Life Award, for suicide prevention.

The "Lift the Lid" event at Bothwell last October was organised by locals to deal with a number of mental health issues in the community.

One of the organisers, Anita Campbell, received the award at Government House on Tuesday night and said the forum has helped break down the stigma attached to mental health.

"Seven months since that event, people do talk about mental health," she said.

"They talk about 'my partner is having a bad day and I'm going to go and see someone', people are talking about it more.

"I can see it starting to continue that way."

The Tasmanian Life Awards were run by Relationships Australia and the Tasmanian Government.
