Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown shopping centres experience power outage leaving Christmas shoppers in dark

Christmas shoppers have been left in darkness following a power failure at two of Dublin's biggest shopping malls.

The power went out at Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown shopping centres at around 4.30pm, with ESB Networks saying there is a fault in the Dublin 15 area.

Some customers took to Twitter to advise people to stay away from the centres, Dublin Live reports.

One woman tweeted: "Power's out at Liffey Valley - turn your cars around."

Another added: "Whole of Liffey Valley in darkness... s******g myself walking down the escalators."

A spokeswoman for the shopping centre told Dublin Live they were unsure when the power would be restored.

ESB Networks say 3,363 homes are affected and they are working to restore power as soon as possible.

An ESB spokesman said: "We have a large fault in the #Dublin15 and surrounding areas this afternoon.

"We are working to repair as quickly as possible and hope to have power restored shortly."

With just six days until Christmas, the mall is due to stay open until 11pm on Thursday.

Parts of nearby Cherry Orchard are also reportedly affected by the outage.
