Lifestyle shop to replace popular Hobbs House Bakery

A lifestyle shop is opening in the building formerly home to Hobbs House Bakery on North Street.

The Bedminster branch of the upmarket bakery chain launched in 2017 after the closure of south Bristol institution Denny's.

But it closed just two years later, citing 'financial pressures being felt by many high street retailers' as the reason.

Since the bakery's departure the site on the corner of North Street and Truro Road has remained empty - but that will change next week when it reopens as the new home of Mon Pote.

The home goods store isn't moving far from its current location only a few minutes' walk up North Street.

After opening in April 2016 the team behind Mon Pote, which sells a selection of homewares, gifts and stationery, have decided it's time to expand.

"We'll be operating the new shop as a pop-up initially before doing some work in the new year to complete the move and make it permanent," said shop owner Anna Clements.

"It's a much bigger space which means we'll be able to expand the ranges we offer and bring in completely new ranges.

"It also has plenty of storage space for extra stock as well as an office space, which will make things much easier for the team.

"We currently keep extra stock in the Big Yellow Storage on Winterstoke Road so for years I've had to run between the two, which has been quite time consumuing.

"The move has been made possible thanks to our loyal local customer base who've continued to support us through lockdown when we've had to move online."

Anna and her team are currently in the process of moving stock across to the new store before the relaunch.

They will open the new shop at 217 North Street on December 2 with a range of social distancing measures in place to protect staff and customers.

More information about Mon Pote can be found on its website.
