Lifelong Sons fan makes history by becoming first woman to sit on board

Stephanie Park has made history by becoming the first woman to sit on the board at Dumbarton FC in the club’s 148-year history.

The lifelong Sons fan, whose first job was working in the snack bar at the club’s former Boghead Park ground, was elected by fans to take over from long-serving Alan Findlay as the Sons Supporters’ Trust representative on the board.

A business management graduate who has served as a police officer for over 25 years, Park won an election of members held earlier this year after impressing supporters with her vision for the club.

And for Stephanie, who helped to set up the Sonstrust in 2001 and currently runs hospitality at the C&G Systems Stadium, the opportunity to represent the fans in the boardroom is something she will relish.

She said: “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to serve the club I love.

“I am very much looking forward to helping see the Sons through this difficult time and raise some much-needed funds, as well as raising the profile of the Sonstrust and building relationships with everyone involved at the club.

“I treat everyone equally and I’m confident that my extensive experience of dealing with challenging and difficult situations will stand me in good stead in the role of Sonstrust director.

"I’m aiming to keep an open dialogue between the trust and the club at all times, and hope that my professionalism and leadership will afford me the skills to be an outstanding ambassador for both the Sonstrust and Dumbarton FC.”

Sons chairman John Steele said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Stephanie as a director of Dumbarton FC.

“She brings fresh experience and enthusiasm to the challenges we face
as well as a woman’s perspective and wisdom.”

Sonstrust secretary Jack Brough said: “We are very pleased indeed that Stephanie has been chosen to represent us on the Dumbarton FC board after careful consultation and a democratic vote.

“Fans will have a strong voice and advocate in Stephanie.

“Whilst welcoming her, we would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the tireless work that outgoing trust nominee Alan Findlay did over many years with the club.”
