Lifelong Man City supporter Vera Cohen passes away aged 104

Lifelong Manchester City supporter Vera Cohen has died at the age of 104, the club has announced.

Vera, who raised money for the Christie hospital through her famed baking skills, started supporting City in the 1920s and held a season ticket for nearly 90 years.

The club said in a statement: "Manchester City are saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong fan Vera Cohen.

"She was one of Manchester City’s most senior Cityzens and a season ticket holder for close to 90 years.

"Everyone at Manchester City would like to send love and best wishes to Vera’s family at this difficult time."

Vera, along with her sister Olga, was paid a visit in 2017 by then captain Vincent Kompany, who stopped by her house for a cup of tea and piece of homemade cake.

A year later, in 2018, Vera and Olga were special guest mascots and led the team out with David Silva ahead of the 3-0 victory over Fulham.

After the match Vera had a conversation with Blues boss Pep Guardiola.

"Pep said hello to me and I said 'thank you for all you've done for this team'," Vera told the BBC.

"Things used to be very different from how they are today. They didn't have a scoreboard when I first came - a man used to come around with a blackboard with the score on it!"
