Lifelong friend shows appreciation for Fiona with flowers to brighten up her day

A big-hearted mum-of-two who is currently battling a life-threatening illness is the latest recipient of the Wishaw Press’ Say it with Flowers Award.

Fiona McCall was nominated by her friend Donna Nelson, the two have known each other all their lives having grown up together in the town.

Fiona, who has two adult children, has appeared in the Wishaw Press before after her travels to Kenya in Africa where she has worked with a charity project which helps build schools and hand out food and equipment to local people.

She is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer and has had to give up work for the time being. It’s the second time Fiona has battled cancer.

Fiona has always been the first person to help others out and Donna wanted to show her appreciation and cheer her up with our flowers, which are courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

Donna said: “She is always helping everybody else, she’s even decorated her pals’ houses. She’s done all the work in Kenya as well as running charity nights for that. And she’s still raising money just now.

“She is just always busy and always on the go, she’s there for everybody and always gives out good advice. She knows everybody and everyone knows her.

“Fiona also likes nature stuff and enjoys cold water dips and things like that. She’s got her own health problems just now and thought we could surprise her with the flowers to brighten up her day and give her something back.

“We also set up a GoFundMe page to help her out as she’s had to give up her job and take some time out.”

When Donna told us about Fiona’s selfless work helping others we were delighted to present her with this beautiful floral arrangement.

If you’d like to nominate someone special then please email: news@wishawpress.co.uk with the person’s name and the reason why. And don’t forget to include a telephone number for yourself.
