March 15--Another year filled with stage adaptations of literary works will mark Lifeline Theatre's 2016-17 season, announced by the company on Tuesday.
Opening the season is the Victorian-era murder mystery "Miss Holmes" (Sept. 9 -- Oct. 30), by Christopher M. Walsh and inspired by the writing of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Paul S. Holmquist will direct the new play about a female detective duo fighting against the status quo.
An adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time" (Feb. 17 -- April 9) by James Sie follows, to be directed by Frances Limoncelli. Madeleine L'Engle's 1963 journey through space and time follows a young girl in search of her missing father.
The mainstage season concludes with "Her Majesty's Will" (May 26 -- July 16), a comedy in which William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe are brought together by an assassination plot.
The KidSeries season opens with "Thumbelina" (Oct. 22 -- Nov. 27), to be adapted and directed from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale by Amanda Delheimer Dimond in collaboration with Mariana Green, Brandi Lee and Liz Rice.
Chris Hainsworth's "Fable-ous!" (Jan. 14 -- Feb. 19) follows. Lavina Jadhwani will direct the new play that collides Aesop's fables in one world.
The musical "Giggle, Giggle, Quack" (March 18 -- April 23), based on the popular 2002 book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin, closes out the programming for young audiences. James E. Grote will adapt the musical about mischevious farm animals, featuring music and lyrics by George Howe and direction Shole Milos.
Lifeline Theatre, located at 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., will also produce the 20th annual Fillet of Solo Festival, a three-week solo performance and storytelling festival running Jan. 13 -- 29.
