Lifeboat races to aid of stranded paddle boarder suffering from hypothermia

Lifeboat crews came to the rescue of a paddle boarder suffering from hypothermia on Ainsdale Beach .

The Southport Offshore Rescue Trust were called to the beach at 10.07am on Sunday, after a paddle boarder got into difficulty in the water.

On arrival they found two casualties at the scene, including one person who had managed to recover themselves onto the beach.

The other person was still stranded in the water after being swept 1km offshore by the ebbing tide and strong winds.

Crews assisted the casualty on shore who was suffering from the onset of hypothermia.

The second casualty was also recovered from the water to the lifeboat and transported to shore with the help of the quad team.

A spokesperson from the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust said: "The quad team handed over both casualties to an ambulance for further assessment.

"Also in attendance were HM Coastguard Southport

"Our thanks to all those involved who brought the incident to a safe conclusion."
