A surfer was rescued by an RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew after getting into difficulty off the Welsh coast during lockdown.
On Tuesday, April 7, Tenby RNLI launched their all-weather lifeboat following reports of a person in the water who was believed to be in difficulty.
The surfer was spotted struggling off the coast somewhere between Giltar and Lydstep, near Tenby, at around 1pm.
Following a search between Giltar Point and towards Lydstep the volunteer lifeboat crew spotted a local fishing vessel that had pulled alongside the casualty.
The man was rescued by the lifeboat which then headed to Lydstep beach, where the surfer was able to paddle ashore and was met by members of HM Coastguard Tenby.
When police can stop you during lockdown and if you can appeal fines
Since the coronavirus lockdown started two weeks ago people have being asked only to leave their homes when absolutely necessary.
The Government guidelines say people should only leave the house for four reasons:
- Infrequent shopping for essentials
- One form of exercise a day
- For a medical need or to care for the vulnerable
- Work - but only if it cannot be done from home
Because the lockdown is difficult to enforce the public are being trusted to follow the guidelines, although there have been reports of many people not adhering to them or to social distancing measures.
The Government has recently warned that if people continue to disobey the rules then the allowance for going out to exercise will be ended.
On April 5, Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, said: "The vast majority of people are following the public health advice, which is absolutely critical, and staying at home.
"But there are a small minority of people who are still not doing that - it's quite unbelievable frankly to see that there are some people who are not following the advice."
