An RNLI lifeboat had to be launched after a dog which had been chasing gulls on the beach dived into the sea to follow them, and kept on swimming.
The owners watched in horror as the dog swam out to sea and failed to turn around, finally being left with no option but to dial 999.
The spaniel had been chasing birds on the beach at Rhyl at 9am on Sunday when it decided to follow them out to sea, reports NorthWalesLive.

After the call from the owner Rhyl lifeboat was launched together with the volunteers of Rhyl Coastguard rescue team.
Initial reports said that the dog was off the old Rhyl Suncentre meaning the lifeboat crew went the wrong way - then turned around after a second 999 call.
a Coxswain stayed back at the boathouse to give directions over the station radio.

The dog was located, brought onboard the lifeboat, and returned to his grateful owner.
Martin Jones, RNLI Coxswain for Rhyl’s RNLI Lifeboat, said: "There was initial worry the owner would attempt to rescue the dog, but on the coastguard’s advice, remained on the beach, keeping the dog in sight.
"We are so happy the animal and it’s owner are reunited."
