A Scots lifeboat crew rescued a man on a rowing boat after he fell unconscious on board.
Two boats from Dunbar's RNLI were called out on Friday, July 8 at around 2:45 pm after the 38-year-old man became unwell on the rowing boat.
The two-man crew set sail on Thursday night but the rower soon began to complain he was feeling unwell. They were intending to come ashore at Dunbar but before they could, the man's condition deteriorated and help was called.
The ILB launched at 2.55pm and seven minutes later met with the casualties, who were drifting a mile north of Dunbar Harbour. One volunteer crew member went aboard and assessed the rower, who was able to speak but was clearly unwell.
In a two-metre swell and force six westerly wind, he was transferred onto the lifeboat where he was provided with oxygen.
The casualty was into the harbour where paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service were waiting to assess him, with Police Scotland officers also attending the scene.
Dunbar lifeboat coxswain Gary Fairbairn said: “This was potentially a challenging operation in tricky conditions but we were able to utilise all the assets at our disposal and the casualty and vessel were brought ashore safely and without incident. Thanks to the volunteers for the excellent job they did.”
