Lifeboat crew attend two incidents off the Ayrshire coast

The RNLI Troon Lifeboat was called out twice on Saturday to attend two separate incidents.

One involved a stricken vessel off the coast of Ardrossan and the other one involved the search for a missing person in Troon.

A spokesperson for the RNLI Troon Lifeboat said: "At 10.42am on Saturday, March 27, Belfast Coastguard requested the launch of Troon lifeboat following a radio call from the crew onboard a 29ft yacht with engine failure two miles west of Ardrossan.

"The volunteer crew assembled and RNLI Trent class all-weather lifeboat ‘RNLB Jim Moffat’ was launched to assist."

The lifeboat headed to the location of the casualty vessel and, on arrival, a tow was established by the lifeboat crew towards Ardrossan harbour – before it was secured.

In the second incident, the crew was called out at 7.45pm to assist in the search for a missing person at Troon.

The crew's Trent class all-weather lifeboat 'RNLB Jim Moffat' and the D-class inshore lifeboat 'Sheena' were launched to assist.

Thankfully, though, news came through from Belfast Coastguard that the person had been traced by police and the teams were stood down.
