Life-threatening waves are expected at Lake Michigan beaches on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Waves as high as 3 to 6 feet and strong rip currents are expected on beaches in Cook and Lake counties, the weather service said in a “beach hazards warning.”
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore that can sweep people into deeper water, the weather service said.
The warning lasts until 10 p.m. Anyone visiting beaches is advised to stay out of the water.
