A man was woken in the middle of the night by panicked police and paramedics after his custom-built life-size Iron Man statue sparked an emergency response.
The homeowner in Deansgate Sqaure, Manchester, paid £14,000 for the light-up figure which he says has been in his high-rise apartment for some time and has so far caused no issues.
But he was awoken on Tuesday by a call from the concierge saying that police and ambulance crews were on their way up, Manchester Evening News reports.
Crews had been called terrified by the figure, thinking someone was hanging.
When he let the 10-strong crew in they told him they were investigating "reports of a concern for welfare".
The man who has asked not to be named says: "I was asleep in bed when I got a call from concierge to say the police were on their way up.
"I jumped out of bed in a scare I just totally panicked, I didn't know what was going on, my kids were in the other room I had to check they were okay.
"I had police, paramedics, officers all come in.
"I switched on the lights and within minutes they realised it was the Iron Man sculpture and they just said 'wow' and 'that's cool'.
"The next thing they were taking selfies with it.
"It seems surreal now, but at the time it was really scary."
The man has lived in the flat for a year and said the sculpture has never caused any problems before now.
Police officers told the man he should now move the sculpture as 'the same thing could happen again', but he says it's simply too heavy.
In a video from the scene, a police officer is heard saying: "You need to move it, we'll just keep getting calls."
The homeowner is a fan of the Iron Man movies starring Robert Downey Jr, and bought the mammoth £14,000 sculpture just before lockdown which features flashing eyes, chest and hands.
He says: "I've been here a year and no one has ever complained about the statue before.
"I mean we are really high up here.
"The officers were saying: you need to move Iron Man' but it's just too heavy to do that.
"It was custom built and touches the ceiling.
"I just really like Iron Man and this lights up and everything, it's cool, I wanted it as a feature for the apartment."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11pm last night (19 October), police were called to reports of a concern for welfare on Deansgate, Manchester.
"Emergency services attended and established that there was no cause for concern."
West Tower is one of the four huge new apartment blocks that has been built at the far end of Deansgate in the city centre as part of the Deansgate Square cluster.
It boasts apartments spread across 44 floors, while the neighbouring South Tower is the largest of the four towers rising to 64 floors.
