'Life should not feel normal' amid lockdown changes says Health Secretary Jeane Freeman

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman has advised that "life should not feel normal" amid the lockdown changes after Scotland entered phase one of the route map through and out of the coronavirus crisis.

Ms Freeman said how she "couldn't emphasise enough" that people should "stick to the advice", with staying at home " the best way of stopping the spread of the virus".

"The reasons you can leave the home are exceptions, they are not the norm," she added in the Government's daily briefing in Edinburgh.

The latest figures show nine more people have died in Scotland within the past 24 hours having tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 2,362.

As of 2pm today (Sunday May 31), 114,322 people in Scotland have been tested for Covid-19, with 15,400 returning positive tests and 98,922 confirmed as negative.

Of those who have tested positive, 732 were in hospital in Scotland last night, 20 of whom were in intensive care, with another seven suspected of having the virus in intensive care.

In the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, a total of 3946 people have been confirmed as having coronavirus, a rise of three since yesterday.

That represents the lowest daily increase of confirmed cases in the city since March 11, when the number of cases rose overnight from three to five.

Although taking into account  that weekend coronavirus figures in Scotland have the possibility of being 'artificially low' due to weekend reporting.

A total of 338 people were in hospital in the Glasgow area last night at midnight with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, seven of whom were in intensive care.
