Life near West Bridgford McDonald's where large queues have become 'nightmare'

People living near a McDonald's restaurant in West Bridgford say the queues for the drive-thru have been a "nightmare" in recent months.

The McDonald's Trent Bridge restaurant and takeaway in Radcliffe Road has been open and serving customers and remained popular in recent months.

This has sometimes led to large queues forming for those wishing to use the drive-thru, as an eat-in service has not been available under restrictions imposed by the Government.

For those living nearby, the hope is further easing of restrictions will lead to such large queues being reduced - as more people opt to eat-in or use the outdoor space to sit down and have a meal.

One resident, who lived nearby but wished to remain anonymous, said: "I think queuing traffic for the drive-thru is the biggest issue.

"It always seems to be very busy at random times as well - like at mid-morning or mid-afternoon.

"You get a big build-up of car looking to turn left, then cars who don't want to use the drive-thru try to go round and end up near the other side of the road.

"All of this means it can sometimes be difficult for cars to get out of the car park and back into the road too, as you almost have two lanes of traffic going either way. I've seen the queues go all the way back to traffic coming over the bridge, which is ridiculous.

"Having said that, it's not always like that, and Radcliffe Road has always been very busy. We haven't had the matchday traffic from Nottingham Forest or the cricket ground recently, which has made a big difference."

Kane Rowan, 22, who was getting some food at the restaurant, said: "I would never normally drive here.

"It's quite quiet at the minute, isn't it? Although I can imagine it does get a lot busier than this.

"I wouldn't come here that often, just every now and again for a treat."

Another nearby resident told Nottinghamshire Live: "I think there's been more people using the drive-thru because of lockdown.

"So now you're allowed to eat inside again, hopefully the queues will start to die down. It can be a bit of a nightmare on occasion.

"Sometimes I see the queue and I think 'do you really want a McDonald's that much to be queuing for that long?'

"But then I guess a lot of places haven't been open, so people are more likely to treat themselves to a McDonald's."
