Life in the 'beautiful' Merseyside village with a 'giving community'

Eccleston is a small township North West of St Helens and has a very tight knit feel as a community.

But what is it that makes Eccleston so special to those that live there?

Adrian Moles is duty manager at The Griffin Inn, a popular hotel and bar at the heart of Eccleston.

He told the ECHO : "The community spirit here is great, I'm not from here myself, I'm from South Africa, but the community here makes you feel so welcome and everybody is so friendly

"I think it's also a very giving community, people are always keen to get behind drives and charitable causes for the community, such the St Helens scarecrow festival for Willowbrook Hospice, which we are sponsoring as a local Eccleston business

"Another thing I can say is that you always feel safe out and about in the area."

"Other than that there's some beautiful spots to visit such as Taylor Park, which has beautiful scenery."

Taylor Park is the largest Victorian park in St Helens and features two large dams, with waterfront trails, wildlife and children's playgrounds.

The park is on the grounds that used to be part of the Eccleston Hall estate.

It was opened in 1893 and was named after Samuel Taylor who donated the land to St Helens.

One resident commented on the unity that is felt in the small township and told the ECHO: "You make your community and when I have worked in Eccleston it sure has a great Community Spirit."

While another resident listed several things they believe make Eccleston great and said: "Low crime, good schools, friendly community, countryside for exercise and mental well being, and good local pubs."

The ECHO also visited other local pubs around Eccleston and spoke to pub owners and patrons alike, while at the Seven Stars Inn on Millbrook Lane.

A member of bar staff said: "I just pour pints so I can't comment too much on things, but everyone I've met and served is really friendly."
