A West Lothian bride wouldn't let lockdown or life-changing surgery stop her from getting married.
Shona Murray-MacKinnon, is due to have eye surgery in March and could lose her sight so arranged her big day for February ahead of the operation.
However, when lockdown was announced in December it meant that they would not be able to spend their happy day surrounded by family and friends, and left the nuptials with a big decision.
Ultimately Shona and husband Kyle, from Winchburgh, decided that they wanted to go ahead with their plans and have a get together for family after lockdown ends.
They tied the knot on Saturday February 20 at Abercorn Church in Winchburgh in front of just two witnesses but the event was streamed on Facebook Live and already the video has over 1000 views.
The newly weds plan to renew their vows and have a bigger ceremony at their originally intended location, Murrayfield Stadium.
Staff nurse, Shona, has diabetic retinopathy and is scheduled to have surgery on March 26.
Due to lockdown she has been off work isolating since December, preparing for the operation, but is absolutely delighted with how her lowkey wedding day unfolded.
She explained: “I get why everyone is wanting a fairytale wedding but the big day is meant to be about the two people getting married and not about having the big do.
“I’m just so glad that we went ahead with it, I know it wasn’t what we had planned but it was so much better than it was going to be.
“It meant the day was about me and Kyle and no one else, and we could enjoy every minute, instead of making sure everyone else was okay.
“I think it was 100 per cent the best decision we could have made. And there is not many brides who get to say they are wearing their amazing dress twice!
“A big shout out to Rev Scott Marshall who done our wedding, he is retiring this year from Winchburgh Parish Church.
“He has just been fantastic with everything and letting us use Abercorn Church for our special day.
“We plan to renew our vows and having a blessing of some sort.
“Hopefully at where we were meant to get married at Murrayfield stadium, along with a big party!”
