Of course Bob Holman (Obituary, 16 June) resigned from his professorship in social administration at Bath University in order to live more fully by his Christian socialist principles. He also confessed to me when we were travelling together on the train from Bath together the perhaps less laudable, but rather more human, additional motive that he had come to loathe one of his fellow professors and hated the idea of having to deal with him for “the rest of my life”.

• Jonathan Jones asserts that the latest images of deep space (G2, 13 June), are “the most important art being made anywhere today”. The phenomena in deep space have been exploding, expanding, contracting and much else for much of the universe’s existence, and without the intention of any earthly individual. They are wonderful in the true sense of the word, but surely not art.

• While I was making my Channel 4 series about the design and construction of Tate Modern, Power into Art, in 2000, the transcription of one interview with Nick Serota had him talking about his plans for “nudist plays”. When I checked, it turned out that he was talking about the Tate’s “new displays” policy. Perhaps now that the Tate has increased its space for performance art (Report, 15 June), that anonymous transcriber’s vision can be realised.
