The celebrations began outside his home in Auchterarder, where neighbours had gathered to raise a glass to the former Queen's Own Cameron Highlander.

Pipe Major Andy Reid of the 51st Highland, 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland was on hand with a tune, and a message of congratulations from Prince Charles was delivered by the regiment’s Lt-Col Duncan McKinnon CO.
The celebrations then carried on to Crieff Hydro Hotel for a family lunch.
While there the centenarian also received a birthday message from the Queen from Stephen Leckie, Lord-Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross.
Lt-Col Cameron joined the Territorial Army in 1939 and was immediately called up to serve in WWII. He was a Company Commander at the age of 22 and served in Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine, Italy and Greece.

Daughter Johanna Wilson said: “A piper came and played outside the house and [neighbour] John Boyd put up some bunting and some of the neighbours watched from a distance so it was lovely.
“We also had a lovely lunch at Crieff Hydro. He enjoyed the party. We had close family and a few friends and everybody was socially distanced on tables far apart. It was nicely done.
“My brother in Australia made a video message for my father and we played it during lunch.”
Lt-Col Cameron said: “I enjoyed my day very much and survived it well.”
He went on to add: “I’m in good form. I feel the same as I was when I was 99!”
