Liel Abada a Celtic player after Hoops confirm Israeli winger's signing on long-term deal

Liel Abada is now a Celtic player after the club confirmed his signing on a five-year-deal.

The 19-year-old Israeli winger joins from Maccabi Peta Tivka subject to international clearance.

Celtic haven’t confirmed a fee for the wide man but it’s understood they paid around £3.4million to secure his services and bring him to Celtic Park.

Teams in France’s Ligue 1 and Club Brugge were also keen but the Hoops have won the race for his signature.

Abada will join up with Ange Postecoglou ’s squad on Friday and train with them for the first time and could feature in next week's Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland.

Predominantly a right winger, he can also operate through the middle as a striker.

Celtic are currently in Bristol ahead of tonight’s friendly against Bristol City.

Abada made 76 appearances for his hometown club after making his debut aged just 17. He scored 20 goals along the way. 13 of those came in 38 games last season, prompting Celtic to make their move this summer.

The winger won his first international cap last month in a 3-1 victory over Montenegro.

He is the third new signing since Postecoglou took over from Neil Lennon, joining Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide, who both joined on free transfers from Sheffield Wednesday.
