Lidl win appeal to place signs at their new Dumbarton supermarket

A council move to stop Lidl erecting signs at their new store in Dumbarton has been thrown out on appeal.

Planners rejected the budget supermarket’s bid to place signage, saying they would harm “the character of the area”.

This is despite the development being given the go-ahead back in June.

At the time, agents acting on behalf of Lidl said it was “difficult to comprehend” planners didn’t anticipate the supermarket would want to advertise their store.

Lidl appealed the decision and confirmed this week that their application has now been approved.

A spokeswoman said: “We are pleased to confirm that, following appeal, our signage application has now been approved.”

One of the signs Lidl want to erect is a totem sign, similar to that on Glasgow Road, at the entrance to St James Retail Park.
