Lidl under fire for stocking the S*n in new Liverpool store as company blames 'error'

A new Lidl store which has just opened in Liverpool is under fire after customers discovered it stocking copies of the S*n.

Shoppers said they were "angry" to discover a "huge pile" of the tabloid, which is widely shunned on Merseyside, in the Lidl on the junction of Park Road and Park Hill Road in Dingle.

The store opened on Thursday, October 8, after taking over the B&M store which was previously on the site, and the supermarket chain told the ECHO the order for the S*n was made in error - and said none had actually been sold in the shop.

The store had been undergoing a refurbishment prior to opening and customers were reported to be queuing out of the door to gain access to the bargain supermarket giant's latest outlet.

The ECHO has seen a delivery note which appear to show 15 copies were delivered to the store on its opening day.

One customer, speaking on social media, said she had tried to hide copies which were in store on Friday.

She said: "One huge complaint, they had a big stack of the S*n. I hid as best as I could."

Local councillor Steve Munby described it as "shocking and outrageous" as shoppers took to social media to complain.

A spokesperson for Lidl told the ECHO: "Due to an administrative error with our national distributor copies of the newspaper were wrongfully delivered to our store on Park Hill Road on its opening day.

"This was noted before the store opened and no copies were put on sale. We can confirm that the paper will not be sold in our store going forward."
