Lidl to unveil plans for new Ayrshire store at online event

A supermarket giant is to put its plans for a new Ayr store to the public next week.

Lidl will hold an "interactive consultation event" on its bid to move in at the former Alexander Sawmills site on Heathfield Road.

Plans for the new supermarket, close to the A77, will create up to 40 new jobs.

The multi-million pound investment will feature facilities including an instore bakery, customer toilet and parking for both cars and bicycles.

The public are invited to attend the event, which will take place between 3pm and 7pm on Wednesday, April 14.

Lidl’s property team will outline the supermarket's plans for a new store, and answer any questions from the local community.

The firm's Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty, said: “We are looking forward to commencing our virtual community consultation on 14 April and getting feedback on our proposals and understanding the local needs from the residents of Ayr.

"This event marks the start of our engagement with the community and will be ongoing as we progress our application.

"We already have one store within South Ayrshire at Allison Street, Ayr, which we opened in 2000 and was then fully upgraded and extended in 2018.

"In addition to this existing store, we are now seeking to increase our presence in the area to reach a customer base not currently served by our town centre store.

"This development will substantially improve the surrounding area bringing much needed housing, along with the family friendly supermarket and employment opportunities."

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s £1.3bn investment plans across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022.
