Lidl to transform vacant Talbot Mall into major new €5m store

Construction has begun on Dublin city centre's newest Lidl store as part of a whopping €5 million project.

The mostly vacant Talbot Mall will be transformed into a brand new Lidl outlet as part of the development.

The new store will create a total of 35 new jobs and up to 100 jobs will be created in the locality during the development and construction phases.

The grocery giant plans to refurbish the old shopping arcade while preserving features of the original façade in tribute to the heritage of the local area and its community.

The new store will be fully compliant with ISO 50001 standards and will feature a top of the range energy management system including LED lighting and the use of renewable electricity only.

A spokeswoman for Lidl said: "The Talbot Street development is the most recent in a portfolio of significant investments Lidl Ireland has made in the Dublin city region since the opening of its first Dublin city store on Moore Street in 2004.

"The retailer has invested more than €60 million in the Dublin city region in recent years, with a current operation of 8 stores providing the best quality products at the best possible prices, and in doing so, ensuring those residing in Dublin’s city centre are adequately supported."
