Lidl struggles to process cards nationwide thanks to 'technical issue’

People popping into Lidl Tuesday morning might have had problems paying after a "technical issue" affected stores nationwide.

The good news is that swift action by the budget retailer means things were up and running within an hour or so of the problem coming to light.

"Due to a nationwide technical issue, our stores are currently experiencing difficulties processing some card payments," Lidl GB wrote on Twitter .

"We’re working hard to get this fixed as soon as possible and will update you when it has been resolved.

"Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."

The German supermarket added that anyone affected by the technical problems should contact their local store for assistance.

An hour or so after posting their initial warning, Lidl announced things appeared to have cleared up.

"We are pleased to confirm that the majority of payments are now going through, however please speak to your local store team directly if you have any queries," the supermarket wrote.

"Again these tills have been a nightmare," one customer wrote on Facebook .

Another added: "It's a good job cash has not been scrapped has was intended."

"I will got to ALDI," Oscar wrote in reply on Twitter. "Aldi is better," another user replied to him.

But shoppers were less impressed.
