Lidl stores will open later on Monday if England win Euro 2020

Supermarket giant Lidl has announced its stores will open an hour later on Monday after the Euro 2020 final - but there's one condition.

If England beat Italy and bring it home on Sunday, July 11, the company will allow staff and shoppers an extra hour to recover on July 12, opening at 9am instead of 8am.

The change would apply to all Lidi stores across Nottinghamshire including Bingham, Netherfield and Beeston.

Opening hours will return to normal on Tuesday, July 13.

Christian Härtnagel, CEO at Lidl GB, said: “Sunday’s final marks a huge occasion in history so, if England are victorious, we have decided to delay our stores opening by one hour.

"At Lidl, the reason for our success is our people and our team work, which is why we want our teams to be able to celebrate for a little longer if the England team bring it home.”

July 12 is a bank holiday, commemorating the Battle of the Boyne in Northern Ireland but it's just an ordinary working day in England.

None of the other supermarkets, including Aldi, Tesco and Asda, have announced any changes to working hours so far.
